Carmelite Monastery of St. Joseph Cemetery

The entrance of the Carmelite Monastery of St. Joseph is on N. County Line Road 0.7 mile north of the intersection of N. County Line Road and NW 192nd St (Danforth Road) west of Edmond, Oklahoma. The Cemetery is inside the Monastery compound. The GPS coordinates are 354033N and 0974017W.

The monastery in Oklahoma was founded from the Carmelite Monastery in Bronx, New York in 1939. The community moved to its present location in 1985 and St. Joseph Cemetery was founded at this location in 1989. In 2004 there were twelve sisters buried there.

The Discalced Carmelite Nuns are an order of cloistered, contemplative women who follow the Carmelite Rule as reformed by Saint Teresa of Jesus in Avila, Spain in the 1500's. The main focus of this group is public and private prayer. Their mission is to pray for the Church and the world.
