In an effort to aid genealogists and those seeking the burial places of their loved ones or ancestors, the OHCE Genealogy Group has selected Cemetery Transcription as our major project for the year. This is a wonderful companion to our recently completed Cemetery Directory project which provides locations and directions to all known cemeteries in all 77 counties in Oklahoma. Most cemeteries have transcriptions on line, but many are not listed online. Now, we are in the process of providing tombstone photographs and transcriptions of all known cemeteries in Oklahoma County. We hope other counties will get interested and follow suit!

We plan to "hop" on the second Wednesday of each month, weather permitting. Our March Cemetery hop will be on March 8th at the Spigener Cemetery in Arcadia. We'll meet at the cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Spigener Cemetery is located on NE 234th St./Sorghum Mill Rd. 0.5 mile west of N. Henney Rd. in Arcadia, Oklahoma. From the Oklahoma City area, take I-35 north to State Highway 66 {exit 141} and go right {east} for about 7.3 miles to N. Hiwasee Rd. {approximately 1.5 miles east of Arcadia, OK.} Turn left {north} and go 2 miles to NE 220th St. {Coffee Creek Rd.} Turn right {east} and go 1 mile to N. Henney Rd. Turn left {north} and go 1 mile to NE 234th St. {Sorghum Mill Rd}. Turn left {west} and go 0.5 mile {the road will wind from left to right}. The cemetery is at the end of the road.

All interested individuals or groups are encouraged to join us in our efforts and come "hopping" with us!" If you need further information, please contact Cemetery Hopping Committee Chairman Jan Beattie at jankb80@sbcglobal.net or telephone (405) 513-4014.
