Oklahoma County, Oklahoma Cemeteries
|
|
The Jenks Family Cemetery was near the intersection of N. Western Ave. and N.W. 172nd St.
in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This Cemetery no longer exists.
In 1893 M.F. and Sallie Jenks tranferred 3.3 acres to the Methodist Episcopal Church South for a church and cemetery.
The United Methodist Church later became the successors of this piece of land. The cemetery land was sold
to a realty company for development in 2000. The individuals buried there were disintered and reburied
in the GraceLawn Cemetery in Edmond, Oklahoma.
The Cemetery has been named Jenks Family Cemetery, Methodist Cemetery, and Pioneer Cemetery. "Pioneer" came about
from a sign that was erected at some point referring to "Pioneers of the statehood" in general.
