Oklahoma County, Oklahoma Cemeteries
|
|
The location of Ewing Cemetery is several miles away from what is usually stated. The following directions will get you to the right place.
Ewing Cemetery is located on E. Wilshire Blvd. 1/3 of a mile west of the intersection of N. Westminster Road and E. Wilshire Blvd. in Oklahoma City.
On the right (north) side of the road, you will see Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. To get to Ewing Cemetery, use the entrance
to the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens and take the road through the middle. Part way through, turn to the left (west) until you come to an opening
in the fence, which is to Ewing Cemetery. There is a little shed next to the entrance. The GPS coordinates of Ewing Cemetery are 353306N and 0972027W.
Ewing Cemetery goes back before statehood and started out as a family burial plot. It was an all black cemetery at one time. There is a fenced area in
the middle of the cemetery; a gravestone with the name Nellye M.E. Giddings can be seen.
It has not been kept up for many years. Perhaps the families have all moved away. This cemetery is a striking contrast to the well-kept
Oaklawn Cemetery.
Robert Smith canvassed Ewing Cemetery in March 2011.
